I started blogging in the short, dark days of December 2009. It was an experiment: I wanted to see if the discipline of doing something creative every day would help with the low moods that tend to assail me in winter.
It worked! And I enjoyed it more than I would have imagined. So I have spring-cleaned the original version and established this more permanent space.
It took me a lot of years to realise that it was OK to prioritise being happy. If this blog’s about any one thing, it’s probably the outworking of that discovery. The things I write about here are the things that help my mind stay healthy.
Three years ago I fulfilled a long-held ambition and started an English degree. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
As well as books and writing, I love art, food, textiles and the natural environment. I try to be a disciple of Jesus. I go to a church that does a good job of accepting people as they are and helping them to live free of the things that pull us down. Like being religious.
I’m getting used to the idea that my children will soon all be living away from home. I’m excited about the future and a little bit scared too.
